    FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)

I found the thought of learning to drive really exciting when I turned 17, but like others I also found it quite daunting…with many questions flying around my head as I approached my 17th birthday!

To help answer some of the questions I had back then, and also some of the questions I’ve been asked since I started teaching, I’ve compiled the following list of FAQ's to help you get the answers to some common questions…

Q:

How do I apply for my Provisional Driving Licence?

A:

To apply for your Provisional Driving Licence, you’ll either need to pick up a copy of Form D1 from your local Post Office, order a Form D1 from the DVLA website, or complete an application form online.

Instructions for completing the form and what you need to send back to the DVLA are included with the application form, and includes:

two passport sized photos of the applicant, counter signed on the reverse by a suitable person, for example a teacher (the form instructions give a list of suitable persons for this task);

the appropriate licence fee.

Q:

Where can I be picked up for my lesson and dropped off afterwards?

A:

Many instructors will only drop you off at the same place they picked you up.  I’m a little more flexible than that, and providing that you let me know where you want to be picked up and dropped off when you book your lesson, I will do my best to accommodate it.

If I cannot accommodate a different drop off point due to other lessons, I will let you know in plenty of time before your lesson so that you can make alternative arrangements, or reschedule the lesson if necessary.

I typically pick my pupils up, and drop them off, at one of the following: home, school, college, university or place of work.

Please feel free to discuss this with me before booking lessons, or if your circumstances change during your course of lessons.

Q:

I’m interested in doing a course, but do I need to have passed my Driving Theory Test before booking it?

A:

The answer to this question is yes!

The courses I run are generally over either one or more weeks, with the practical driving test is at the end.  In order to book a Practical Driving Test, you will need to have a Theory Test certificate number, and there is usually a several week wait for Practical Driving Tests.

Q:

Can I wear sunglasses when I’m on my Practical Driving Test?

A:

Yes, provided you emphasise looking in the mirrors by moving your head, as the examiner will not be able to see your eyes moving.
